PLACEBO, “LOUD LIKE LOVE” – SAMAN KESH. Unless you obsessively follow music video releases, you probably haven’t noticed that late-’90s British alt-rock band Placebo have put out a ridiculous amount of clips this past week. Most of them have been in slow motion and depict some (maybe connected?) emotional narrative that I’m not able to follow – my least favorite genre of music set to my least favorite genre of video. The latest one, though, is a fun, second-person-invoking mystery puzzle hosted by Bret Easton Ellis that features STDs, teddy bears, and Windex-flavored vomit. “Loud Like Love” itself is forgettable and only tangentially related to the video, but Saman Kesh’s terrarium of 1970s decadence is so complex and well-directed that I could watch this enough times to accidentally get the song stuck in my head.
